CORONAVIRUS AND THE OPEN ARMS HOTEL

It is with extremely heavy hearts that Lyn and I are closing the Open Arms Hotel from Thursday 19 March until further notice.   We hope the shut-down will not be for long!

One of the worst parts of this crisis was telling our wonderful staff, many of whom have been with us for such a long time.    We had agreed to pay staff from our own resources for a period of time, but with the Government’s unprecedented intervention, we are pleased that we can continue to pay them until we are able to reopen.

It has been a tremendous pleasure to welcome our guests to the hotel over the years and we sincerely trust it will not be too many weeks before we have that opportunity once more.   If you wish to help us when we reopen then, please, come along for lunches, dinners and accommodation when we start again.   This will ensure our great staff will have a happy, busy hotel to come back to and we will, hopefully, return to some norm as quickly as possible.  We shall, of course, post a note when we have a reopening date.

Our Very Best Wishes to you – keep well and safe.

Chris and Lyn

GIFT VOUCHERS

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL VOUCHERS WHICH WILL EXPIRE DURING OUR CLOSE-DOWN WILL BE EXTENDED FOR A FURTHER SIX MONTHS.

Welcome to Open Arms Hotel

The hotel is directly opposite 13th century Dirleton Castle with an open outlook to the village green.

THE OPEN ARMS HOTEL – ESTABLISHED IN 1947 – WAS STARTED WITH THE PREMISE OF FRIENDLY SERVICE, GOOD FOOD AND DRINK AND COMFORT.   TO-DAY, OVER 70 YEARS LATER, THE STILL PRIVATELY FAMILY OWNED HOTEL, ADHERES TO THOSE VALUES.

OUR CHEFS TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR DISHES AND THE BUSY RESTAURANT, WHERE LOCALS AND GUESTS CAN RELAX AND ENJOY BEAUTIFULLY PREPARED GOOD FOOD, IS A TESTAMENT TO THEIR SKILL. LOCALLY GROWN AND MADE FOOD AND DRINK ARE SERVED, WHERE POSSIBLE. (VIEW DINING.)

THE LOUNGES WITH THEIR COMFORTABLE CHAIRS AND SOFAS AND OPEN FIRES GIVE GUESTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY TEA OR COFFEE OR A PRE OR AFTER MEAL DRINK. THERE IS A SMALL LIBRARY FROM WHICH GUESTS MAY BORROW BOOKS AND SETTLE IN FOR A QUIET READ WITHOUT DISTURBANCE.

THE 12 BEDROOMS ARE ALL INDIVDUALLY DECORATED, BUT EACH OFFERS COMFORT AND WARMTH WITH THE MODERN CONVENIENCE OF COMPLIMENTARY WI-FI.   MOST BEDROOMS LOOK OUT TO THE 13TH CENTURY CASTLE OF DIRLETON ACROSS THE GREEN FROM THE HOTEL, WHILST FOUR ROOMS LOOK OVER THE TRANQUILITY OF OUR GARDEN.   WELL-BEHAVED DOGS ARE MOST WELCOME WITH A COVER OF THEIR OWN AND A WEE TREAT TO WELCOME THEM.   THEY MAY USE ALL THE LOUNGES, BUT ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE RESTAURANT.  (EXCEPT GUIDE DOGS).

THE MARQUEE ROOM (UP TO 50), THE LIBRARY (20) AND THE HEATHER ROOM (10-12) CAN BE BOOKED FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION, FAMILY GET-TOGETHER OR MEETING. ( VIEW FUNCTIONS.)

THE AREA AROUND THE HOTEL ABOUNDS WITH GOLF COURSES AND WE ARE HAPPY TO RESERVE GOLF FOR YOU.   THE WALKS ALONG THE BEACHES AT GULLANE, YELLOWCRAIGS AND NORTH BERWICK SHOULD NOT BE MISSED.  THE VILLAGES HAVE MANY INTERESTING SHOPS WHILST EDINBURGH IS A MERE 30 MINUTES BY TRAIN OR CAR.  (VIEW LOCAL INTEREST.)

WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE OPPORTUNITY OF WELCOMING AND LOOKING AFTER YOU WHETHER IT BE FOR A MEAL, A SHORT OR LONG STAY OR AN EVENT. RELAX, ENJOY AND LEAVE REFRESHED TO FACE THE UPS AND DOWNS OF EVERYDAY LIFE.

DOGS

ARE MOST WELCOME.  A charge of £10.00 is levied for a stay whether it be for one night or seven.
It is very important that you advise us PRIOR to arrival that you are bringing a dog as we try to allocate an appropriate room.  Dogs are allowed in all of our lounges, but NOT in any of the restaurants or the Marquee Room if a function is taking place.  Obviously, Guide Dogs are exempt for these rules.   Owners are expected to ensure that dogs are on their best behaviour at all times whilst in the public areas and do not disturb other guests.

A drinking bowl and small bag of treats await the arrival of your four-legged friend.
